| Oak | Is a pale, reddish-brown hardwood with a generally straight grain |
| Open Rise Stair | This is a stair in which there is a space between the surface of the tread and the bottom of the next riser (a dummy riser). The space must never be greater than 99mm

| Opening Cap | A rounded handrail starting cap used above a continuous newel. It is often paired with an up easing (collectively called an opening rise) to start the raking balustrade |
| Over-easing | An concave arched handrail section to (continuously) join a raking handrail to a horizontal handrail at the top of a staircase |
| Overall Stair Width | The width of the staircase, including the stringers.
