Newel Base The bottom, square section of the newel which is fixed to the stringer with a mortice/tenon joint photo showing a newel base
Newel Cap Is a finishing piece for the top of a newel post/turn and comes in several styles, including ball, acorn, burger, flat/square and pyramid ball cap
Newel Drop A newel base that extends below the landing to accept a decorative newel cap, which appears to drop from the ceiling above photo of stair showing newel drops
Newel Turn(ing) The shaped section of the newel which sits on top of the newel base, and into which the newel cap fits example of a newel turn, with base and cap
Newels The post/column used at the turning/change of direction of a stair to connect the handrails, baserails and stringers of adjacent flights. The term newel is also applied to the post or final baluster, at the top/bottom of the stair, which terminates a balustrade photo of a CV Stairs' stair highlighting the newel post
Nosing The edge of the tread projecting beyond the face of the riser and the face of a cut stringer. Normally a nosing is 22mm diagram showing nosing
