| Handrail | The top component of the balustrade, the underside of which is used to house the spindles. The handrail can be raking or horizontal (see Raking Handrail & Landing Handrail)  |
| Headroom | The vertical distance from the lowest point of the ceiling directly above the stair to the nose of the stair- the minimum required headroom is 2000mm clear
