Handrail The top component of the balustrade, the underside of which is used to house the spindles. The handrail can be raking or horizontal (see Raking Handrail & Landing Handrail) handrail
Headroom The vertical distance from the lowest point of the ceiling directly above the stair to the nose of the stair- the minimum required headroom is 2000mm clear diagram describing 'headroom'
Hemlock Is a pale brown, straight grained softwood hemlock swatch
Horizontal Cap Is used to house a continuous newel through a 90° turn on a section of continuous horizontal balustrading horizontal cap
